What got you into refereeing?
Took up the whistle at university as I realized there was a career path in refereeing and I wanted to give back. I wasn’t a great player so it seemed the next best thing!
Best on-field moment(s)
PNG v Cook Islands in Port Moresby 2000
South Africa v NZ Cape Town 2001
Ireland v France Dublin 2001
Best off-field moment(s)
Meeting a diverse range of people around the world. Wine, food, history, culture, scenery. Any tour anywhere in the world!
Funniest refereeing moment
Lions v Waratahs game in Sydney in 2001. Getting a touch judge report from Stu Dickinson recommending I give out 4 yellow cards. My reaction of "Are you serious?" was hilarious.
Best refereeing advice you have ever been given?
Referee what is in front of you.
Focus on what you can control.
Learn from your peers and most importantly understand the game through seeking feedback from players and coaches.
